Following his master’s degree in applied mathematics from Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands, Jacob has worked in a very diverse set of fields. For his PhD, he worked on topics such as “the evidential value of DNA profiles” in forensic cases; together with the Rijksmuseum, the Frans Hals Museum and the Van Gogh Museum he investigated how Bayesian inference could aid in establishing (a more) scientific reasoning in attribution questions such as “did Van Gogh paint this painting”. The last couple of years, while working at Bayer, Jacob worked on topics in Pharma and Consumer Health, ranging from computer vision for oncogenic driver detection to identifying footwear associated pain relief solutions.
He is immensely interested in how mathematics can aid other fields in answering questions that matter.
